The In Kind Editor-in-Chief shares an elevated canvas bag, a dummy-proof curling iron, her favorite ballet flats, and how she went from a career in magazines to launching her own.
Loved this interview so much! Good food for thought on art/side hustles (does my Substack need to be income generating or should it just be “art”?)
I started my very early career in magazines — what a funny thing to think back on! I remember getting sent to the most fun press events as an intern at Condé Nast and raiding the beauty closet for whatever we wanted. I would come home with boxes of stuff to give my other writer intern friends who were doing like, political reporting, lol. Even saw Anna Wintour speak once! It really was such a golden age of magazines.
Awwww, I'm so jealous! It all reminds me of The Hills and The City and Devil Wears Prada and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days — it was such an ERA! And agree 100% on the Substack art/side hustle conversation, I love hearing someone say that it's ok to just let it be art or a passion project (if that's what you want!)
I love love love how open and vulnerable she is, it is so refreshing to hear someone talk to so freely about the good and the bad and all the decisions that come along with it.
Such a thoughtful interview - really enjoyed this one Laura!! I also recall the days of magazines pre insta and when Vogue digital was just an ‘afterthought’ ! I was at Harpers Bazaar pitching a Style.com channel on digital and the digital editor (also named Camilla oddly) was like ‘and why would we bother with that?’ 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I also started my career in magazines (on the advertising side), and it was such a fun, exciting time, especially when print was the main/only focus. Loved reading this and now I need to get my hands on In Kind!
I love this so much, Laura — I am an enormous fan of Leah's and InKind. I have been honored to speak to her for the magazine about a topic I find fascinating as we age (ambition) and just love seeing what hers continues to create!

This was fantastic! Especially loved Leah’s perspective on side hustles and art and creativity.

Love this!! Leah is such a gem <3
Also Leah, you are influencing me on those blue light glasses. I think I might need to order a pair to keep at my desk.
I have Caddis as well as Look Optic — the latter is slightly more lightweight and has an incredible style range.
oooh, will take a look at those too!

Love this - Leah is the best. And, Team Beachwaver forever!
Oooh, do you use it too? I'm tempted to try, I love curling my hair but always feel so lazy
