🎧 The Second Life podcast with
has become one of my favorite listens. I’m a sucker for a great startup story and Hillary asks great questions. She recently interviewed Maria Dueñas Jacobs, a former accessories editor and director at Glamour and Elle, about building her company, Super Smalls. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, check it out asap— it’s the perfect gift for any kid in your life who loves sparkle and accessories. I am a longtime fan of Maria—she has incredible taste, style, and seems very kind too boot—and I loved hearing her story. Super Smalls is a genius idea and the execution by Maria is so impressive.✉️ You know when you hear about someone or something, and then suddenly you see them everywhere? That happened to me last week with Emily Sundberg, a New York-based writer and director who writes a daily business newsletter called Feed Me. First, her interview with Embedded popped up in my feed, then I listened to her interview on the A Thing or Two with Claire & Erica podcast. I appreciate her curiosity and hot takes on the intersection of business and culture.
🎶 Speaking of A Thing or Two with Claire & Erica, they shared a bunch of great cover songs (steel drums! Leon Bridges covering Bob Marley!) on their latest podcast that sent me into a YouTube rabbit hole of music discovery. I’m always on the lookout for new music and this was a fun, unexpected source of inspiration.

🎨
is one of my absolute favorite people to follow. Fashion aside, I love her taste in interiors—her London home is 🤌🏻. Recently, she shared two posts about designing her home and I am bookmarking every last detail. First, she shared 10 Things I’d Do if I Was Decorating My Home Now (And 5 things I might not do again..)— brilliant concept for a post, btw —then, she shared Every Paint Colour I used in my Home (All 22 of them plus finishes and light sources...). So much good stuff.

✈️ Yolo Intel is my favorite source to feed my wanderlust. A recent post about Cuba, the Adirondacks and insider access to the Alps is packed with so many great travel ideas far away from the usual suspects that have taken over the algorithm. Their recommendations are so good, and I always enjoy reading them—even if I know I won’t make it there anytime soon because I’m
stuckhappily at home with two small kids.

🪡 One of the main reasons I started The Essential List is because I wanted to disconnect from the 24/7 sales cycle that is the internet today, and connect with real people about the things they actually buy/wear/use/love. Many interesting conversations are taking place around the topics of consumption and influencers, in addition to the sheer cost and abundance of the many items being promoted. To highlight a few: How are people affording fashion? by
, How the f💰💸k is everybody living like this? by , and 250 Things I Didn’t Buy This Week: Deinfluence Your Closet + Wallet by .
My intention with this edition of the newsletter (You May Also Like…) is to keep it content-focused and product-free. Thanks for reading, and I hope you discovered something new or interesting!
Next week, a new Essential List all about Art—I cannot wait to share! x Laura
